Beauty queens… Next thing we know they’ll be running for governor or something.

Shh! Don’t give the GOP ideas!

Do people not pay attention in school? I mean science isn’t my favorite material either but damn. By the way, she’s quite physically attractive too as well as smart.

Seeing the confusion here (and all around me, too), I wish we take the British route and teach the controversy where it belongs: in a Religious Studies class.

I know it could never work, given the localized nature of US schools, but a man can dream, can’t he?

Problem in the US is that in many areas, “Religious Studies” translates directly to “Protestant Christian Studies”, and the fundies insist on proselytization (ie curriculum must be “Bible Based”, and compulsory organized prayer strongly encouraged).

Thus: “it could never work.”

In fact, the only chance of it working would be with a national board of exam writers and graders, just like is done in the UK. But that would undoubtedly be socialism, so…

Well, those 49 old fashioned, creationism-believing ladies probably have jobs waiting for them at Fox whenever they feel like it, given Fox’s hiring policy for on-air women.

And considering Fox and the GOP are essentially one in the same now….they probably already had that idea long ago

That’s a fairly lame question. I think they should ask contestants if they believe the earth is flat or if cameras can steal your soul and trap it in a picture.

Here’s a 14+ minute of the contestants answering the question.

Youtube Video

I didn’t watch the whole thing, but the majority of the answers I did watch were in favor of teaching evolution in school, with a very high percentage of those saying “Both sides should be taught” and/or “Everything should be taught and the kids should decide for themselves what to believe”.

:sigh:

Wow, completely missed the Sarah Palin reference. Though I guess I can be proud that the mentally challenged half-governor does not pop up in my mind that easily.

The problem is that conservative school systems have dumbed school down to the point where it’s a miracle we’re able to put out students capable of anything at all. I went to one of the best public high-schools in my state and I can’t honestly remember evolution ever being addressed. The only reason that I learned any of that stuff was because my dad was an Anglican priest and he would have been embarrassed if anyone in his family was too stupid or uninformed to not at least be simpatico with Vatican Two.

I’m shocked that any of them said they believed in evolution - they’re beauty queens, fer cryin’ out loud!

They often pick the densest out of all the beauty queens anyway.

Ha! That’s the first question I always ask a beautiful intelligent young woman “do you believe in evolution”
